It was once, I fell in love with a blacksmith

It was once,

I fell in love with a blacksmith

The God of the fire

The God of the acid

The sculptor of the forges bright

The creator of the water’s tight

The soaking rag that fondled heat

The sweat that swam across his cheek

It was but once

I fell in love with a blacksmith

Lord of change

Master of blade

Who cut me out of my very skin

Who poured the wine which has no sin

Who hung me on a bridge made wire

Who let his dull eyes stand expired

And eyes were not made to wander without glow

And dreams are but a nightmare’s foe

That live within each other’s bed

Where acid swallows every thread

It cuts right through on dulling course

We need a blacksmith’s fiery force

And it was once

I fell in love

And watched it bend and spark

Was he a God and sculptor so?

Who forgot to forge his heart?
