Love by Numbers

I could never count all the leaves of every tree in place,

But you could count each freckle on my countless dimpled face.

I could never count each drop of rain the clouds have sighed and bled,

But you could catch every tear my swollen eyes have shed.

I could never grasp each tonal chord of rushing thunder clap,

But with just your ear upon my chest, my heartbeat you will grasp.

I could never travel past the gates that border my backyard,

But through your words of crystal trance, I find my way back to start.

And clouds so light and sweetly drift a measure solemn pace,

Never seen to find their way into my gentle grace.

Yet you have the hands of a thousand miles that reach the skies with ease.

They snatch the stars right from sky, without so much as please.

I come from the land of rocks and water that dance in fluid steps.

I know of power, but only yours has stolen my last breath.

I could never count each crashing wave that softly licks the shore,

They sweep me off my very feet and tumble at your door.

There are no numbers which I could count to show you what you’re worth.

Your value is a steady climb that leaves me in a curse.

I could never count how many ways and Browning said it swell.

Just a simple look, and a simple kiss, I’m hooked now on your spell.
